Leaders define and act out their values, or what is important to them. While I recommend that every leader do this, it is critical to understand that values may be misguided or selfish. For instance, an extreme example would be Hitler’s value to eradicate all Jews from the face of the earth. That was a value, but it was demonic and immoral. The man or woman who builds a company no matter what the cost to family or health has a value of success, but it is destructive.

That is why I urge you to base your values on the timeless principles found in the wisdom books of history. My wisdom book is the Bible. You will see that I use biblical principles as a source for my value identification.

Note: to view the PDF file, you will need the Free Acrobat Reader. To help you in your values clarification, I attach another book chapter entitled Defining Your Governing Values. Review this chapter, study my list of values and then go to work on your own. The chapter includes a "how to" list at the end of the discussion.
