April 13, Kingdom Rule

Today’s reading: Psalms 61-65

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken” - Psalm 62:1-2.

David wrote this in a time when he was under assault, which was quite often. Yet David came to many conclusions during those dangerous times. First, his true rest was not in escape but in the Lord. Second, his salvation came from God and not his military prowess. Third, God was his fortress, not those he could design or build with his military experience. Armed with those conclusions, David proclaimed that he would never be shaken. This reminds me of what is written in Hebrews: “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire’” (Hebrews 12:28-29). Have you thought out your attitude and response to life when things are tough? If you are shaken, then perhaps you are not living under God’s kingdom rule as you should? If you don’t have rest, maybe your thinking is wrong, which is causing you to seek refuge in something or someone other than God?
