Today’s reading: Psalms 11-15
“You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race” - Psalm 12:7-8.
Today’s passage contains a vivid description of modern society: the evil strut about freely because what is vile is honored. The problem is that as they strut, they persecute and dishonor those who walk in righteousness. The promise in the verse, however, provides comfort: The Lord always protects His people in the midst of the madness. Jesus reiterated this promise when He said: “I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one” (John 17:4-5). Are you nervous over the state of the world? Has it caused you to alter your lifestyle, or do you just keep your fear silently in your heart, afraid when you step out of the comfort zone you know? The good news is that God is watching and has promised to protect you. What will you do differently now that you are reminded of that truth?
