Today’s reading: Psalms 66-70

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land” - Psalm 68:5-6.

This passage tells you a lot about God’s values and priorities. Even though He dwells in holiness, He is intimately involved in the lives of His people. What does today’s passage tell you that God does? He cares for widows and orphans. God places the lonely in family settings. He leads those in captivity to freedom from addictions, debt or any other enslaving habit. Yet if people stubbornly insist on doing their own thing in their own way, He leaves them alone. The implications for you are two-fold. If you are lonely, God has a new family for you — if you are willing to have those blessings. If not and you prefer to sulk in self-pity, He will leave you be. Then also, if God is interested in helping the lonely, will you allow Him to use you to help them by opening your home and heart? Can you make God’s priorities your priorities?
