February 28, The Spirit’s Role

Today’s reading: Psalms 136-140

“How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you.” - Psalm 139:17-18.

God wants to reveal Himself to you but you need help to see and understand. God reveals His thoughts in His word through the illumination of the Holy Spirit, and Jesus explained how this would take place in John 16:13: “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come” (emphasis added). First, the Spirit will come and dwell within you. Second, the Spirit will guide you, never drive or overwhelm you. Third, He will speak to you personally and in a way you can comprehend. Fourth, the Spirit will impart God’s thoughts that you need for your future development and direction. Is the Spirit revealing more of God’s truth to you? If not, what are you doing to block that process? Are you spending enough time in God’s word?
