January 02, Vindication

Today’s Reading: Psalms 6-10

“Let the Lord judge the peoples. Vindicate me, Lord, according to my righteousness, according to my integrity, O Most High” - Psalm 7:8

It can be difficult to wait for the Lord to vindicate you when you have been wrongly accused or someone criticizes or maligns you. Two common responses to when your reputation is sullied is to take legal action or to counterattack. Yet the psalmist in today’s verse chose to trust that God would be the One to vindicate him, a strategy that Jesus employed as Peter explained: “ When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly (1 Peter 2:23). Both Jesus and the psalmist chose to wait for God to do set things right according to His own time and in His own way. Pray this prayer today: Lord, I put You in charge of my image and my defense. I choose not to defend myself, but will wait for You to do so - or not!
