January 03, Your Thought Life

Today’s Reading: Psalms 11-15

“How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?” - Psalm 13:1-2.

When you are suffering, there are two questions that generally arise: why and how long will it last? David was sorrowful as he battled thoughts of God’s possible unfaithfulness amidst the seemingly endless duration of his pain. In this case, David’s battle was not external but in his mind and that is where your greatest battle takes place as well. Paul wrote that this work of renewing your mind is like hand-to-hand combat, as he described in 2 Corinthians 10:5: “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Are you willing to take on this battle to bring your thought life into alignment with God’s reality and will? If so, then pray this prayer: Lord, today I choose to believe that You are faithful, and I commit to wrestle with my thought life to make sure it accepts and meditates on Your truth.
