January 15, Money Love

Today’s reading: Psalms 71-75

“But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked” - Psalm 73:2-3

It can be difficult to understand why good things happen to seemingly bad people and why they have the resources and opportunities for success that seem to elude you. The psalmist confessed that he had almost succumbed to envy when he beheld what others had. The good news is he did not, and you must not either! Paul wrote about this tendency in 1 Timothy 6:6-10:

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
