January 18, Your Anointing

Today’s reading: Psalms 86-90

“Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: ‘I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have raised up a young man from among the people. I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him’”     - Psalm 89:19-20.

David was anointed, which means the Spirit was with him to help him do God’s will. Jesus was also referred to as the Christ, which means the Anointed One as Luke described: “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him” (Acts 10:38). You are anointed when you function in your purpose, and your purpose work and anointing are not restricted to church work. They are present in your life wherever God assigns you a task, and that may be at work, in school, in a foreign land or with a particular group of people who have a special need. Where do you sense God’s anointing in your life? What are you doing when you sense it? Do you understand that God’s anointing may be with you when you are working in what some would call a secular setting?
