January 20, Give Thanks

Today’s reading: Psalms 96-100

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name”     - Psalm 100:4.

When asked how they were doing, I have heard older saints respond, “Well, the Lord got me up this morning and I’m thankful.” I thought it was a quaint response, if not simplistic—until I got older. Now I wake up every morning giving God thanks for another day, and I take a lot of pictures of sunsets because I consider them a bonus and another cause for gratitude. It is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord, for it helps us focus on our blessings and the goodness of God in the midst of life’s uncertainties. Paul instructed us in Ephesians 5:20 to “always [be] giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Spend some significant minutes today thanking God for your life and the people and things that are in it.
