January 30, The Church

Today’s reading: Psalms 146-150

“For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory” - Psalm 149:4

Some people interpret the “people” in this verse to mean individuals like you and me. Yet the context is not singular but plural. God delights in His people and those people today are His church. which Jesus paid to establish with His life. John saw the church and described it in Revelation 21:2: “I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” This begs the questions: Are you involved in a local church? Are you utilizing your gifts to help edify her people and reach new converts? While you are special to God as an individual, the corporate church is where God’s heart is, and you need to be involved in what matters to God.
