July 1, Vivid Prayers
Today’s reading: Psalms 1-5
“Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked” - Psalm 3:6-7.
David was in trouble and he was not praying “now-I-lay-me-down-to-sleep” prayers. He was praying fervently and aggressively because he knew the danger he was in and realized God was the only One who could help and save him. Do you realize that you are in the same kind of danger David was in? You have an enemy that just doesn’t want to hurt you; he wants to destroy you so you will abandon your faith journey. Peter warned about this danger when he wrote, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings” (1 Peter 5:8-9). Do you see the nature of the spiritual war in which you are engaged when you follow Jesus? Are you praying aggressive prayers that have vivid descriptions of what you need the Lord to do?
