July 16, God is Able

Today’s reading: Psalms 76-80

“They spoke against God; they said, ‘Can God really spread a table in the wilderness? True, he struck the rock, and water gushed out, streams flowed abundantly, but can he also give us bread? Can he supply meat for his people?’”
-
Psalm 78:19-20.

When the Lord led Israel out of Egypt, He led them into the Sinai desert. They considered their surroundings and chose to panic, lashing out at the Lord, even though they had seen His power to provide when He sent forth water from a rock. They had to trust the Lord daily for their provision and they grumbled, opting not to believe Him able to provide bread and meat in spite of the water miracle. You can easily fall into the same trap, challenging the Lord’s goodness today, even though He has acted on your behalf again and again in the yesterdays of your life. Jesus challenged His disciples to also remember God’s ability to provide and have faith:

“You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?” (Matthew 16:8-10).

Are you in a panic today because you don’t see where tomorrow’s provision is coming from? Has unbelief got you in a dither? Are you questioning God’s ability to provide for you?
