July 17, Seek His Kingdom

Today’s reading: Psalms 81-85

“‘For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless” - Psalm 84:11.

Today’s verse basically tells you that God is everything you need, every day and in every way. If you need light, He is the sun, heating and brightening your way. If you need protection from the sun, He is your shield. He grants honor for work done and favor in the eyes of those who can help you along the way. He does not withhold any good thing you need in your life and walk with him — if your walk is blameless (meaning you keep short accounts, asking forgiveness of God and others when you sin). Therefore, if you don’t have something it is because God has decided you don’t need it. Jesus stated it this way:

So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:31-33).

Can you make peace today with the fact that there some things you don’t have only because God has chosen not to give them to you, and He has a good reason for doing so? Are you perhaps the thing standing between God and what you need?
