July 7, Doctor Jesus

Today’s reading: Psalms 31-35

“Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’ And you forgave the guilt of my sin” - Psalm 32:5.

God is faithful and ready to forgive sin, if the sinner asks for forgiveness. When sinners hide or deny guilt, they have no need for forgiveness and will continue in their sinful ways. As we have seen throughout this devotional, God requires honesty, not for His benefit since He already knows the truth, but for yours. What’s more, those who consider themselves righteous do not need Jesus’ help, as indicated by the Pharisees’ attitude:

While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners (Mark 2:17).

Do you need Doctor Jesus to heal your sinful heart and ways? Are you aware of your sin? Or are you denying it due to pride or fear? Is it time to confess some sins to God?
