June 2, Strategy for Victims

Today’s verse: Psalms 6-10

“But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless” - Psalm 10:14.

If you have been a victim — and to some extent everyone has — then the worst thing you can do is to try and make things right in your own strength from your own perspective of what you need. The best thing to do is to trust the Lord because when you do, he takes your grief into His own hands! It also seems that the Lord has a special “hot line” for those who suffered and are suffering from a lack of fatherly care or presence — they get His immediate and undivided attention. These verses are reminiscent of Hannah when she found herself childless:

In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head” (1 Samuel 1:10-11).

Are you burdened with grief? Childless? Fatherless? Penniless? Are you a victim of some abuse or crime? Then do what Hannah did and commit your way to the Lord, standing on the promise of today’s verse as you commit yourself to Him.
