March 27, Faithfulness
Today’s reading: Psalms 131-135
“Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord who minister by night in the house of the Lord. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord.” - Psalm 134:1-2
There were some priests who drew night duty as they served in the Temple. This psalm urged them to be diligent and faithful to perform their duties, even though the temptation may have been to sleep or slack off due to the hour when people normally rest. If God has directed you to do something, then it doesn’t matter what others are doing or how many hours it takes you to complete the project. If they are sleeping, playing, enjoying leisure or sitting idly, you are to stand watch and do what the Lord wants you to do. Paul wrote, “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2). In what is God asking you to be faithful? Faithful in school and studies? Faithful to serve others? Faithful to write or teach or stand with a friend?
