May 30, Storm Master

Today’s reading: Psalms 146-150

“Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding” - Psalm 148:7-8.

Weather can be an awesome and terrifying encounter for humans, but God is in control of it all, according to today’s passage. All of creation is commanded to praise the Lord in light of this power over the nature He created. It is of note that the “winds do his bidding,’” which brings to mind one of the encounters with wind that Jesus had:

A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:38-40).

Are the winds of life swamping your boat? is it time you called on the Master of the storm to calm things down? Better yet, call on Him to quell the storm of fear in your own heart, and have faith that the winds are indeed doing His bidding in your world.
