May 31, Study the Word
Today’s reading: Psalms 116-120
“Cause me to understand the way of your precepts,
that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds” - Psalm 119:27.
The Bible and especially the psalms have great Spirit-led prayers that you can use today in your walk with the Lord. Today’s verse is one of those prayers. The psalmist asked the Lord for help so he could understand God’s ways and commands. God must open your mind to comprehend His word and to gain insight into His person. Are you praying for that to happen? If you are, then are you spending any amount of time not just reading His word, but also studying it? The Jews in Berea modeled this practice when Luke reported: “Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true” (Acts 17:11). Don’t just have good intentions to study the Word and know Him better, get some help developing a plan to do so and then follow it!
