May 5, Being Taught

Today’s reading: Psalm 21-25

“Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long” - Psalm 25:5.

You and I need to be taught the truth and that is why we need to be part of a local church. We need to hear the Word regularly from someone who is capable of teaching God’s word and God’s ways with skill and accuracy. What’s more, that need never ends, but the problem can be that the longer you are in a church, the easier it is to get disillusioned due to the weakness and failure of leadership and followers. When the church problems manifest themselves, it is easy to pick up and go home, sometimes staying home without either returning to church regularly or being involved when you go. The writer of Hebrews stated the problem this way: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25). Who is teaching you God’s word? Where are you being taught? How often? Do you know God’s word better today than you did a year ago? What will you do to continue your growth in the next year?
