Questions that Jesus Asked in the Four Gospels

Below is a list of questions that Jesus asked in the gospels.  See how many answers you can apply to your life and walk with the Lord.


1. Matthew 6:28

28 “And why do you worry about clothes?


2. Matthew 12:48-49

48 He replied to him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?"


3. Matthew 16:13-15

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"  14 They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" 


4. Matthew 18:1

1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”


5. Matthew 19:16-18

16 Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" 17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."  18 "Which ones?" the man inquired.


6. Matthew 21:10-11

10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who is this?" 11 The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."


7. Matthew 21:23

23 Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you this authority?"


8. Matthew 21:24-25

24 Jesus replied, "I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 25 John's baptism-where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or from men?"


9. Matthew 26:67-68

Others slapped him 68 and said, "Prophesy to us, Christ. Who hit you?"


10. Mark 1:23-24

24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!"


11. Mark 2:6-7

7 "Why does this fellow talk like that? He's blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"


12. Mark 5:30

30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?" 


13. Luke 12:14-15

14 Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?"  15 Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." 


14. Luke 12:24-26

25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?


15. Luke 22:27-28

27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.


16. John 9:36-37

36 "Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him." 37 Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you."

23 "If I said something wrong," Jesus replied, "testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?"


18. John 20:15

15 "Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?"


19. Matthew 5:46-48

46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.


20. Matthew 16:26

21. Matthew 17:25

When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. "What do you think, Simon?" he asked. "From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes-from their own sons or from others?" 


22. Matthew 18:12-13

12 "What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?”

20 "All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"

21 "What is it you want?" he asked. She said, "Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom." 22 "You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said to them. "Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?" "We can," they answered.


25. Matthew 20:32-33

32 Jesus stopped and called them. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked. 33 "Lord," they answered, "we want our sight."

9 Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"

33 They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the road?"  34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.

33. Luke 24:17-19

17 He asked them, "What are you discussing together as you walk along?" They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, "Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?" 19 "What things?" he asked.


34. John 1:37-39

38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?" They said, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?" 39 "Come," he replied, "and you will see."


35. John 5:46-47

46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47 But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"


36. John 6:61-63

61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you? 62 What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!”

21 When Peter saw him, he asked, "Lord, what about him?" 22 Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me."  23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?"


39. Matthew 7:3-4

3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”

48. Matthew 17:10

10 The disciples asked him, "Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?"

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"

7 "Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?"

76. John 8:43-47

43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. 77. John 10:34-37

34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'? 35 If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came-and the Scripture cannot be broken- 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?


78. John 13:37

37 Peter asked, "Lord, why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you."


79. John 14:22

22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?"
