Session 1: Part of the Solution

In this introductory session, John looks at an obscure story from King David's reign that served as a motivation for him to become involved in the healing process required for racial reconciliation to occur.
 
 
 

Session 2: The Answer is Not Political

John shares that we as the church need to be clear as to the end goal in the midst of prejudice and racism. He then makes a case that it is reconciliation, which is a biblical concept. John is clear that politics is not the basis for or means to healing and reconciliation. He then begins an overview of his life history that has involved building relationships with people of other cultures and races.
 
 

 

Session 3: A Lot to Learn

In 1974, John joined a church led by a black pastor. That relationship opened John's eyes and mind to the reality of racism in the church and the need for intentional acts that would lead to healing and harmony.

 

Session 4: The Posture of a Servant

John continues to share the importance of being involved as a listening and learning servant with people who didn't look like him to be an agent of God's healing and reconciliation. This included John's work on the continent of Africa.

 

Session 5: Be Aware, Make A Connection

John explains the need for each believer to be open both to their own blind spots and the reality of other people's perspectives. He then shares examples of bias and racism in the Bible so believers will not be so surprised when they find it in the modern church. Finally, he shows that we must "touch" others if we are serious agents of reconciliation.

 

Session 6: A Personal Philosophy

The unity of the body of Jesus is important and it requires intentional acts to address issues that mar or work against that unity. Remember that the goal is reconciliation and healing.
