Purpose Study Bible 313: Behind The Scenes

Ruth and Naomi had done all they could—it was now time to wait. While they rested, God was orchestrating redemption through Boaz at the city gate. What looked like delay was actually divine preparation. They couldn’t see the negotiations or the outcome, and didn't know how long they would take, but they trusted that the same God who guided their steps to Bethlehem would finish what He began. We read,

Then Boaz announced to the elders and all the people, “Today you are witnesses that I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelek, Kilion and Mahlon. I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, Mahlon’s widow, as my wife, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property, so that his name will not disappear from among his family or from his hometown. Today you are witnesses!” (Ruth 4:9-10).

Faith often requires that same confidence — believing that God is active even when you can’t see movement. Waiting is not inactivity; it’s trust in motion. When you’ve done your part, God does His, and His behind-the-scenes work always leads to something far greater than you imagined.

Can you trust that once you have done all you can that God will do all He can do? Where do you need to act and where do you need to rest in your current life situation? Can you thank God for what He is doing that you can't see, trusting that He is working on your behalf? If the story of Ruth was a fairy tale, it would end with the words, "and they all lived happily ever after" for we read

Then Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him. The women living there said, “Naomi has a son!” And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David (Ruth 4:16-17).

God is working toward the same result in your life as you fulfill your creative purpose. Just as He did for Ruth and Naomi, He will do for you—if you trust Him to do His part as you walk together as purpose partners.
