Purpose Study Bible 317: Your Turn on Stage

After we learn of the king’s search for a new queen and meet Esther with her unique qualifications, we are introduced to another person who plays a significant role in this royal drama. His name is Mordecai and he has raised Esther as his daughter, even though she is his cousin.

And Mordecai had brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter, for she had neither father nor mother. The young woman was lovely and beautiful. When her father and mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter (Esther 2:7).

This simple introduction sets up one of the most important relationships in the entire book. Mordecai's purpose was connected to Esther's, and the circumstances had to play out in the kingdom in order for his wisdom and care to come to the forefront. That's how your purpose may be. You prepare, but certain events have to occur and other people have to be positioned before you can be introduced into your role.

Your job, therefore, is to have a sense of destiny and prepare for it. That means you earn your degrees, learn your languages, hone your skills, accumulate your wisdom and experience so that when the curtain rises, you won't be found rehearsing or memorizing your role. You will already have developed your potential. You will be ready. Remember that preparation isn’t perfection—it’s progress and readiness.

What is your sense of your future destiny? What does it look like then and what do you need to do now to prepare? And what relationships are you establishing and maintaining that could play a part in your future purpose? God is a master director, assigning a place for everyone on His purpose stage for their grand performance. You want to be ready, like Mordecai was, when it's your turn for opening night.
