Purpose Study Bible 321: Placed on Purpose

At the end of chapter two, we begin to see what God is doing with Mordecai and Esther—He has strategically placed both of them where they needed to be to accomplish His and their purpose:

During the time Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, became angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. But Mordecai found out about the plot and told Queen Esther, who in turn reported it to the king, giving credit to Mordecai. And when the report was investigated and found to be true, the two officials were impaled on poles. All this was recorded in the book of the annals in the presence of the king (Esther 2:21-23).

Your purpose involves not just what you do that no one else can do, but also where you will do it. And you will know you are where you're supposed to be when things happen that you know only God could have made possible. Notice that Esther and Mordecai did not gain fame and success in their homeland, but in a heathen land among heathen leaders and people. He opens doors, gives you influence, and grants you a measure of success that lets you know you're in the right place at the right time to be and do what He created you to be and do.

Where do you experience the most fulfilling success in your purpose walk? Is it a place you cherish, or is it a place you would prefer not to be? Can you accept that God's purpose for you involves not just gifts and purposeful work, but geographic positioning that may not be to your liking or choosing?

Mordecai and Esther had their impact not in the Temple or in their homeland, but far from home in a foreign land. You must be open to the fact that God may want to use you in the same way as you work among people who would not be your first choice as to where you are to invest the best of who God made you to be.
