Purpose Study Bible 324: Spiritual Power for Creative Purpose
Once Esther was clear that God had positioned her to save her people, she announced a plan and flew into action. But part of the action was to refrain from eating to add spiritual power to her emergency plan:
“Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish" (Esther 4:16).
Most of us will never face the life-and-death situation that Esther and the Jews faced, but that doesn't mean we shouldn’t seek and depend on the same kind of spiritual power. People are waiting for you to express your purpose, whether it is the poetry you write, the business you start, the course you teach. You need the same kind of divine help Esther received, even if the work you do isn't quite as dramatic as hers was.
Where in your life do you need to act with more urgency? Where would a time of prayer and fasting enhance your plans rather than delay them? Where have you relied on your own strength rather than the supernatural strength that only God can provide? Your creative purpose is a lifeline for others, so don't deprive them any longer of your presence that brings with it the insight, encouragement, or wisdom they need in the power that only God can provide.
