Purpose Study Bible 336: Don’t Overlook What Comes Naturally
Then Joshua son of Jozadak and his fellow priests and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his associates began to build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, in accordance with what is written in the Law of Moses the man of God (Ezra 3:2).
Once the exiles returned to Jerusalem, they rebuilt the altar so they could worship. That may not seem remarkable, but it is. It was an act of obedience, but it also required the ability to build—an ability God had already placed within them. When the moment came, they used what they had been given.
God has also given you abilities to cook, write, paint, build a business, or teach others. You may not think those are special because they come naturally, but they are. You may overlook them as you search for purpose, yet others can see God working through you as you express what you can naturally do.
What can you do that sets you apart as unique? Are you taking it for granted or looking past it as you seek your purpose? These priests built something that became the foundation for the community’s worship. Your purpose is part of your worship, for Jesus said we must worship in spirit and truth, and part of that truth is not just who He is, but also who you are as you live out what He placed within you.
Ask God to show you what you have overlooked that is an important part of your foundation in serving Him.
