Purpose Study Bible 340: Your Daily Bread
After a lengthy delay in rebuilding the Temple, the original authorization to rebuild was found. What's more, the new king added this stipulation:
Their expenses are to be fully paid out of the royal treasury, from the revenues of Trans-Euphrates, so that the work will not stop. Whatever is needed—young bulls, rams, male lambs for burnt offerings to the God of heaven, and wheat, salt, wine and olive oil, as requested by the priests in Jerusalem—must be given them daily without fail, so that they may offer sacrifices pleasing to the God of heaven and pray for the well-being of the king and his sons (Ezra 6:8-10).
Perhaps the greatest concern we have about fulfilling our purpose is how our needs will be met. Notice in this decree that the king said provision was to be made daily, which is reminiscent of what Jesus taught us to pray: “Give us today our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). In other words, what you need today will be here today, and what you need tomorrow will be there when you arrive.
Therefore, you can work today to fulfill your creative purpose without being controlled by concerns about provision, for Jesus said, “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things [food, clothing, shelter, transport] will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33). Are you trusting in this promise? Are you living in today without constantly worrying about tomorrow? Are you confident in God’s provision?
Once you overcome the fear of not having enough, you'll be free to live in this day which the Lord has made, knowing your King has already declared that your provision will be there today and every day.
