Purpose Study Bible 341: Your Job Is Purpose, God’s Job Is Provision
When the work to rebuild the Temple resumed, the king issued this decree:
Moreover, I hereby decree what you are to do for these elders of the Jews in the construction of this house of God: Their expenses are to be fully paid out of the royal treasury, from the revenues of Trans-Euphrates, so that the work will not stop. Whatever is needed—young bulls, rams, male lambs for burnt offerings to the God of heaven, and wheat, salt, wine and olive oil, as requested by the priests in Jerusalem—must be given them daily without fail, so that they may offer sacrifices pleasing to the God of heaven and pray for the well-being of the king and his sons (Ezra 6:8-10).
Often the main concern people raise when pursuing their creative purpose is how they will make money, because they assume their work must be the source of their provision. However, God can provide through any number of means and isn't limited to the place where someone works. He can provide through individuals, governments, grants, gifts, donations, royalties, or unexpected opportunities because He owns all things and is able to provide what you need however He chooses.
That truth should free you to pursue your purpose, which is your role, and allow God to provide for you, which is His role. Where have financial concerns limited what you believe you can do? Do you see how God provided for these elders from a foreign king’s treasury? If He did that for them, can He do something similar for you?
Money is important and God knows you need it. The point is that He isn't limited to conventional means to make provision, so expand your thinking concerning how God can provide and stop limiting Him, and yourself, to familiar sources.
