October 10, Be Quiet

Today’s reading: Psalms 46-50

“He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth’”
- Psalm 46:10.

There is a lot of noise all around you every day. When there isn’t noise, you may create it by putting on some music, turning on the television, or going to the mall. Yet to hear the voice of the Lord or just to get in touch with your own thoughts and feelings, you must create some quiet space where you open yourself to the life of your inner being. That can be scary, for what if the Lord speaks to you? What if you have to confront your own guilt, fear or insecurity? The psalmist directed you to be still so that you can get a better perspective of who God is in all His glory and power. When you do that, your current situation, which may be a challenge for you, will fade into the awareness of God’s awesome power that will ultimately be expressed in the Second Coming of Jesus. Take some time today and every day this week just to compose yourself, pen and journal close by, and then quiet your heart and mind to listen to God and sharpen your focus on His majesty, greatness and purpose for you and for all His creation.
