Purpose Study Bible 318: Create Where You Are
Purpose and creativity never occur in a vacuum. They play out in real life with its ups and downs, joys and sorrows, unexpected blessings and setbacks. Conditions are seldom ideal or perfect for you to find and fulfill your creative purpose. They certainly weren't for Esther. Let's go back and reexamine the verse we looked at last week.
Mordecai had a cousin named Hadassah, whom he had brought up because she had neither father nor mother (Esther 2:7).
Esther was an orphan. We aren't told how she lost her parents, just that she did. How old was she when that happened? Did she not have any siblings? As far as we know, she was alone in a foreign land, except for her cousin. And what do we know of Mordecai? Did he have other family? How difficult was it for him to adopt his cousin and raise her as his own? What life plans did this decision cause him to adjust or abandon?
Perhaps you are waiting for conditions to be just right so you can express who you are and be creative. That means you will probably be waiting for a long time, only to find that conditions are never just right. You create in the midst of life, not despite it. You learn to take what moments you can in the reality of your situation and express who God made you to be. It may only be for a moment, but those moments add up. And those moments are God's way of developing and preparing you, just like He did Esther and Mordecai.
Has your attitude been "when things get better, then I'll do this or that"? If so, it's time to face the reality that the present can only limit you if you allow it do so. God wants to help you learn to flow freely in purpose right now, where you are, using what you have. But that will require you to think and then act accordingly. If you will submit to that process, there's no telling what He can do with and through you in the long run. Perhaps a throne is in your future, all because you embraced the present as part of God’s plan to shape you into the fullest, best expression of who He created you to be.
