Finishing Well

Walking with the Lord is just what it implies:  a walk, a trip with a specific destination, a journey mapped out by God and made by His obedient followers.  Thus Paul could write with confidence and without boasting, “I have fought the good fight, finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).  The implication is that God mapped out a specific course and Paul stayed true to the course and the signposts along the way.  Doing that enabled Paul to not only live well but to also finish well, which is the aspect of our journey that we will examine in this article.

Unmasking Halloween

Every October 31, parents face questions about Halloween, such as, “Should we allow our children to go out trick-or-treating?” and “Should we answer the door and give out candy? Or tracts? Or should we close the windows, turn out the lights and pretend we aren’t at home”

Without a sufficient knowledge of Halloween’s history and what the Bible says, it is difficult for a Christian to adequately answer these and other questions about participation in Halloween.

How to Survive

Working in a Local Church

The Church is the only enterprise that is guaranteed devilish opposition.  When Jesus said, “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it” (Matthew 16:18), He wasn’t saying that the gates of hell wouldn’t try to overcome the Church.  He was promising that their efforts would be unsuccessful.  Working for a church, therefore, is unique, different than any other occupation or job.

Turbulence in Zimbabwe

Turbulence.  I don’t like turbulence, but ,as my KLM flight heads into New York from Amsterdam, we encounter a bumpy ride.  I’ve flown more than three million miles since 1989 and you would think that I would be used to turbulence, but I’m not.  I try to picture riding in a car over a rough road and tell myself it’s no worse than that.  Yet, my mind knows that I am bumpy at 39.000 feet and that’s a whole lot different than being bumpy on a road at sea level.
