September 12, Your Source of Help
Today’s reading: Psalms 56-60
“Give us aid against the enemy,
for human help is worthless” - Psalm 60:11.
Ultimately, even if human help is involved in your deliverance, it is God who instigated or empowered the human help to be effective. You should be grateful to those who assist you, but your best and most profuse thanks should be to God. This is especially true of the company who pays you, for while God is using them, God is the one who is providing. Your company doesn’t pay your bills, God pays your bills. What’s more, He uses your company but He doesn’t need your company. In Elijah’s case, God used nature to provide for the man of God:
“You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.” So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook (1 Kings 17:4-6).
Do you understand that God is your source and your career counselor? Do you know that He can provide for you through your job or outside your job? Do you express thanks to God for your provision, even if your company name is on the check?
